Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Thomas Weyburn, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

Dr. Weyburn is a distinguished hematologist-oncologist renowned for his excellence in the field. His clinical focus encompasses a comprehensive range of areas, including leukemia, lymphedema, on-site laboratory services, and various blood disorders. 

As a valued member of Advocate Medical Group, Dr. Weyburn practices in both Crystal Lake and Libertyville, Illinois. 

His hospital affiliations extend to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. This broad network of affiliations reflects his commitment to providing comprehensive and high-quality care to his patients across various medical settings.

Graduating with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Weyburn went on to perform his internship and residency at Lutheran General Hospital. He then furthered his training with an additional residency at Lagrange Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in hematology and medical oncology through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). The AOBIM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, and a rare hematologic related syndromes, and diseases.
