A top professional in the field of anesthesiology, Dr. Guertin serves as a Professor of Anesthesiology and Chief Perioperative Medical Director at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is continuously setting the standard for world-class care. In his role as the Chief Perioperative Medical Director, Dr. Guertin works with the senior leadership team to guide the daily operations and future strategic course of the more than 80 operating rooms across the health system and to maintain high quality, safety and efficiency for all patients and staff.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Guertin earned his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan in 1988. He completed his internship and residency training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and went on to complete his Master of Business Administration degree at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.

A Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA), the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of helping to properly prepare patients for surgery, monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery, and keeping them comfortable and safe in the period immediately following surgery.
