Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Hsien Sing Sam Hsieh, who serves patients in Grand Coulee, Washington.

Dr. Hsieh, a board-certified general surgeon, joined the Coulee Medical Center team in August of 2015. 

Serving as Chief of Staff, his main focus is on general surgery. Some procedures include, but are not limited to, colonoscopy, gallbladder disease, soft tissue disease, gastrointestinal disease, hernias, thyroid, laparoscopic, vascular and varicose veins.

Coulee Medical Center is a 25-bed Trauma Level IV Critical Access Hospital with a very important job: to serve the healthcare needs of the rural community with the best in patient care, medical expertise, and personalized service. Based out of a new state-of-the-art, 66,000-square-foot facility near the famous Grand Coulee Dam, the hospital provides professional medical services to the residents and visitors of the greater Grand Coulee area, the five surrounding counties, and the nearby Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. 

Born in Hong Kong, Dr. Hsieh graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He then went on to complete his surgical residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in June of 2015. 

A true asset to his field, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Hsieh is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
