Throughout his academic career, Dr. Sotereanos earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residencies in general surgery and orthopaedic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in adult reconstruction at Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic.

The doctor is board-certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, which is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. He has trained twenty-six fellows in adult reconstruction as the Director of Adult Reconstruction at Allegheny General Hospital, as well as has performed the first two-incision technique and same-day minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty in Pittsburgh.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the Allegheny County Medical Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Interstate Orthopaedic Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society.
