Dr. Thoms graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 and continued her medical education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at Michael Reese Hospital/University of Chicago in 1986. Her extensive training and experience have equipped her to handle a diverse array of conditions, including cataracts, diabetic eye care, dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a valued member of the medical staff at Northwest Community Hospital, Dr. Thoms is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Her expertise has been recognized by Castle Connolly Magazine, which named her one of the best doctors in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Additionally, she has received the prestigious Chicago Magazine Top Doctor Award for 2021-2022 and the Exceptional Women in Medicine Award from 2020 to 2022, as well as achieving the highest patient satisfaction rating in independent surveys among local ophthalmologists.
