Get to know Urologist Dr. Allen M. Chernoff, who serves patients in Chicago and Wilmette, Illinois.

Dr. Chernoff is a board-certified urologist who is affiliated with Metro Chicago Surgical Oncology in Chicago and Wilmette, Illinois. The skilled, well-known, and award-winning urologists at Metro Chicago Surgical Oncology offer the most advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments for urology conditions affecting both men and women. 

Dr. Chernoff is also affiliated with Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, which is one of Illinois’ largest, most comprehensive nonprofit medical centers. The Center offers a wide range of medical specialties and is nationally recognized for its medical expertise, innovative technologies, and dedication to patient safety, quality, and service.

In 1992, Dr. Chernoff attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, followed by his fellowship in oncology at the National Cancer Institute.

In 2000, Dr. Chernoff was recruited to Chicago to become the Chief of Minimally Invasive Urology at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center where he served as Director of Resident Education from 2005 until 2007. Additionally, Dr. Chernoff is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a prominent member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Urologic Oncology. 

Dr. Chernoff is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, as well as by working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning for the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.

Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands. Dr. Chernoff has expertise in several areas of his field, including surgical oncology, laparoscopy, robot-assisted surgery, and more. 

Dr. Chernoff strives to ensure patients understand their diseases and treatment plans so that they can be active participants in their care. “My goal is for you, as my patient, to have as fully developed a picture of your situation as possible. This includes knowledge of your disease, how it will affect your body and your lifestyle, and what treatment options will be best. I want you to understand what treatment was chosen and why because I believe that in the best case scenario, you and I are part of a team. It is as a team, each with different roles to play, that outcomes are maximized” as stated by Dr. Chernoff.
