Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Bradley S. Rice, who serves the population of Alabama. Dr. Bradley S. Rice is a highly respected and experienced physician, having been in practice for over a decade. His career in medicine began in 2003 when he graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of South Alabama School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Rice completed his Internal Medicine residency with University of Louisville in Kentucky. Driven to further his expertise and knowledge, he undertook his Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellowship at the University of Louisville, where he was Chief Gastroenterology fellow. Dr. Rice is dual certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology/Hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has dedicated his life to delivering compassionate care. He is determined to enhance his patients’ quality of life, providing high quality, individualized care in order to ensure the most optimal results. With a passion for his work, Dr. Rice is noted for his expertise in Colon Cancer Screening, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreotography (ERCP), Barrett’s Ablation with BARRX, and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy. in addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Rice also volunteers his time in the community on various medical boards and is currently serving as President of the Alabama Gastroenterology Society. He continues to have medical students on rotation and shadowing him in his private practice setting in order to educate future healthcare professionals. He also serves in various leadership capacities at Crestwood Medical Center in order to help facilitate and improve quality patient care. Dr. Rice keeps current with the newest developments, guidelines, and procedures in his field by remaining a distinguished member of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He currently practices with Alabama Colon and Gastro, P.C., and is affiliated with Crestwood Medical Center and Madison Surgery Center Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organs including the movement of material through the stomach and intestine (motility), the digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, removal of waste from the system, and the function of the liver as a digestive organ. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis.
