Get to know Dr. Bingman,a highly respected expert in the field of child psychiatry. Jana D. Bingman, MD, is a well-versed child and adolescent psychiatrist who diagnoses and treats patients at OU Physicians, University of Oklahoma-Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Schusterman Center Clinic, also in Tulsa. She is part of one of Oklahoma’s largest physician group and practices in the Department of Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. OU Medicine is the collaboration of The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, OU Physicians, OU Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital. The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine was founded in 1900 as a medical department of the University of Oklahoma at its main campus in Norman. In the 1970s, a geographically separate, community-based clinical campus was established in Tulsa, approximately 100 miles northeast of the main campus. Referred to as the OU College of Medicine, the college is the only medical school in Oklahoma that grants the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. Dr. Bingham began her career as high school teacher. After teaching in the public school system for seventeen years, Dr. Bingman followed her heart and become a physician and psychiatrist Having taught children on the high school level, she gained a unique perspective in treating children and teens. Dr. Bingham completed her general psychiatry residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is a medical education and biomedical research institution in Dallas, Texas, She went on to gain a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals, in Salt Lake City. Dr. Bingman received board certification in psychiatry with an added qualification in child and adolescent psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and remains at the forefront of her challenging specialty through professional memberships and affiliations with prestigious professional societies and associations, including the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychological Association. Additionally, she is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry as well as child and Adolescent Psychiatry. As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Bingman has dedicated training and unique experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders in children, adolescents, and their families. She has an unparalleled knowledge and expertise in all facets of child and adolescent psychiatry with an emphasis on mood disorders. One of Dr. Bingman’s most notable achievements is her position as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the University of Oklahoma, School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is a fully-accredited training program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry which has been training physicians for more than 30 years. The faculty are Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with clinical expertise in various areas within Child and Adolescent psychiatry. The two-year child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program at OUSCM is an innovative, well-balanced, and comprehensive training program.The first year is a partial hospital program and consult-liaison services at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital. The second year of the program focuses on neurodevelopmental disabilities, community child mental health, forensics, school-based mental health services in Union Public Schools, eating disorders at Laureate Psychiatric Institute, and adolescent substance abuse treatment at Tulsa Boys’ Home. Dr. Bingman attributes her success in the field to her drive and determination throughout her life.
