Get to know Shoulder and Elbow Specialist and Surgeon Dr. Philip J. Mulieri, who serves patients throughout the State of Connecticut.

Dr. Mulieri is a shoulder and elbow specialist and surgeon at OrthoConnecticut. He sees patients at the offices in Danbury, Ridgefield, and Southbury, Connecticut. His specialty areas include shoulder and elbow surgery, including arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, shoulder and elbow replacement, and complex shoulder and elbow surgery.

OrthoConnecticut is a multispecialty practice staffed by leaders in orthopedic care and is the united practice of Coastal Orthopedics, Danbury Orthopedics, New Milford Orthopedics, and Connecticut Pain Care. The practice’s Centers of Excellence provide integrated treatment, offering individualized and compassionate care by a team of board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists. In his professional experience, Dr. Mulieri is also affiliated with Danbury Hospital and Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center – both of which are located in Danbury, Connecticut.  His clinical and scientific experience provides a unique foundation for providing outstanding, cutting-edge care for his patients.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Mulieri earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He then went on to obtain both his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular Biology and Development and his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, New York. 

Wanting to further his education, he completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. This was followed by a fellowship in shoulder & elbow surgery at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. 

After his fellowship training, Dr. Mulieri was a visiting professor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, studying the most advanced techniques for the treatment of complex elbow problems. In addition to extensive clinical training, he has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Aided by his expertise, the doctor is board-certified through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, which is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Connecticut Orthopedic Society.

Orthopedic Surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.
