Since 1997, Dr. Glenn E. Lockwood, DDS, has served as a Dentist in Alaska. In regards to his education, Dr. Lockwood completed his Bachelor of Science degree in University Studies from Brigham Young University in 1975. From there, he went on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1979. Thereafter, he had the opportunity to complete additional advanced training, including a residency in oral surgery at Klinikum Nürnberg in Germany. He is also extremely proud of the time he spent as an Army Veteran, stationed at the Augsburg Germany Army base, where he retired from the prestigious rank of Major. In order to remain up to date in his field, Dr. Lockwood maintains a professional membership with the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Looking back at his successful career to date, he attributes his success to hard work, dedication, continuing education, and his natural desire to always put his patients’ needs first. His advice to fellow newcomers within the industry is to “take a specialty residency.” On a more personal note, when he is not working, Dr. Lockwood enjoys being outdoors, where he partakes in fishing – one of his favorite pastimes. He also serves as a basketball coach, which he finds to be extremely rewarding.

Only if one had periodontitis, “gum” (gingival) pockets 5 mm deep or deeper pockets. 1 mm is the width of a dime. A regular cleaning is recommended before orthodontic treatment. READ MORE

It is possible to get an implant years after an extraction but it depends on several factors. If the bone loss in height is too great or bone thickness is to thin, you will probably require bone grafting for the first and ridge expansion with or without bone grafting depending on what method is required to expand the bone for the placement of an implant. Why does my dental bridge hurt?
It is not advisable to get implants while you have periodontitis. You should get that gum disease under control. If bayou don’t follow through with the necessary steps needed to control or eliminate the gym disease, chances are very high that you will get Peri-implatitis and your implant will fail. READ MORE

Do your teeth get whiter after quitting smoking?
Usually not on their own. You need to get your teeth cleaned and should probably get them bleached at the dentist’s office or use some Crest Whitening Strips. I don’t recommend the mall beaching or online bleaching as they tend to damage your gums as the trays aren’t scalloped to fitbonlo to the gum line and they go over the teeth past the gingival crest and down over the gums. Can you have dental implants if you have periodontal disease?
It isn’t recommended until you clear up or have it under total control. Periodontitis (gum disease) is a disease of the gums and the bone around the roots of the teeth. Implants placed in a mouth with periodontitis will become implants with Peri-implantitis. The implants will fail. READ MORE
How long does it take for dentures to settle?
It depends on the person. It can take several days to up to a couple of months. It depends on how many adjustments are needed and how often one can get into to have them adjusted READ MORE
Do teeth gaps close over time?

What if there is not enough tooth for a crown?
We can use material to build up the tooth or foundation that remains under the crown. If there is absolutely not enough tooth remaining to be built up, then it needs to be extracted and a bridge or implant placed. READ MORE
