Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Jon R. Sherman, who serves patients in Rancho Mirage, California.

Dr. Sherman is a distinguished interventional cardiologist providing top-quality cardiac care to patients at his private practice in Rancho Mirage, California.

His professional interests span a wide range of cardiovascular disease, encompassing interventional cardiology techniques, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, noninvasive cardiac imaging,  cardiac rehabilitation, preventive cardiology and wellness. Dr. Sherman is experience in nuclear cardiology, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, 3-D echocardiography, CIMT (Carotid Intima-Media Thickness) assessments, stress echocardiography, exercise treadmill testing, management of congestive heart failure, and cardiac rhythm disorders, including implantation and follow-up of cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders. Furthermore, he has wide expertise in electronic health records and medical informatics.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Sherman holds hospital affiliations with Eisenhower Medical Center Rancho Mirage and Desert Regional Medical Center Palm Springs, underlining his commitment to providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art, patient-oriented cardiac care.

 Academically, Dr. Sherman graduated with his Medical Degree from the John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in 1989. Subsequently, he undertook his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center from 1989 to 1992.

Dr. Sherman completed his fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Baylor University Medical Center from 1992 to 1995, and subsequently a second fellowship in interventional cardiology with the esteemed Cardiovascular Medicine and Coronary Interventions specialists at Sequoia Hospital from 1995 to 1996.

In 2014 he obtained a Certificate in Leadership for Healthcare Transformation from The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, and is currently completing a Chief Medical Officer certificate from the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University.

Passionate about his profession, Dr. Sherman is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Sherman is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS). The NBPAS is a physician-led organization that supports professional development and lifelong learning goals while limiting practice burdens, and advocating for necessary change.  NBPAS provides a continuous board certification that is evidence-based, specialty-specific and clinically relevant.  

Showcasing his advanced knowledge and skills, Dr. Sherman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI). 

In addition, Dr. Sherman is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the California Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

Interventional cardiology is a discipline of cardiology that deals specifically with the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic coronary and vascular disease, as well as congenital and structural heart diseases. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with additional education and training in the invasive, catheter-based treatment of such cardiovascular diseases, including techniques of angioplasty, atherectomy and stenting, among others.
