Specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery, Dr. Gabriel is a highly trained orthopedic spine surgeon at Spine Institute of Ohio in Hilliard & a satellite office in Wheelersburg. He offers both surgical and non-surgical spinal care, and focuses on cutting-edge spine surgery options such as microdiscectomy, laminectomy, and ALIF.

Currently, he performs surgery at these facilities: Onyx & Pearl Surgical Suites, Mt. Carmel St. Anns Hospital, OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, and OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital.

Prior to his current endeavours, he spent three years as a full time academic spine surgeon at The Ohio State University. He also served as an assistant professor and the director of the Division of Spine Surgery, and as the clinical director of the Biodynamics Laboratory in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at The Ohio State University.

Graduating with his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, Dr. Gabriel continued there for residency training in orthopedic surgery, and an orthopedic research fellowship. He received postgraduate fellowship training in Laminoplasty techniques at the Universities of Osaka, Hirosaki, and Chiba in Japan. He also completed a spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University under the mentorship of Dr. Henry H. Bohlman.

As a testament to his success, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Gabriel is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the Spine Arthroplasty Society, the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, and the Columbus Medical Society.

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Gabriel has published multiple research articles and book chapters for the benefit of medical education. He invented the Mini-Open approach to the Presacral Retroperitoneal space for minimally invasive lumbosacral discectomy and fusion. 

Nationally and internationally, he has given multiple presentations and lectures on spine surgery. His research interests include patient outcomes and the biomechanics of the spine. 

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
