What is the best age to have a facelift?
People see facial aging in their forties with the formation of jowls, marionette lines from the lower lip to the jaw, and prominent nasolabial folds from the nose to the upper lip. These changes are amenable to a mini-facelift (cheeks only). In the fifties, neck laxity and the platysmal neck muscle bands (turkey gobbler) appear as well, which is amenable to a full facelift. Some patients start having these changes earlier or later, depending on heredity, weight fluctuation, smoking, sun exposure, and health issues. Other changes in the eyelids and forehead occur as well and can be addressed. A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is the best first step. Hope this helps. Peter J.
