Chesapeake, Virginia – Stephanie Jones Marioneaux, MD, a distinguished solo private ophthalmologist with over 30 years of experience, has been a prominent figure in the Tidewater Virginia area, specializing in cornea and external diseases, as well as general ophthalmology since 1993. Her expertise encompasses cataract surgery, laser procedures, and corneal transplants, making her a trusted resource for patients seeking specialized eye care.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Marioneaux serves as an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she passionately teaches residents and medical students. Her commitment to education reflects her dedication to the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Dr. Marioneaux’s impressive academic background began when she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Harvard University. She continued her medical education at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and completed her internship in internal medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital in 1985. Dr. Marioneaux further advanced her training with a residency in ophthalmology and a fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at the renowned Wills Eye Hospital.

In 2011, Dr. Marioneaux expanded her skill set by completing a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, allowing her to incorporate a holistic approach to patient care—a philosophy that continues to shape her practice today.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Marioneaux is an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the National Medical Association, and Women in Ophthalmology. She has also gained recognition as an AMA award-winning physician broadcaster and serves as a media spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, sharing her expertise on a global platform.

Having received numerous prestigious honors throughout her career, Dr. Marioneaux was recognized as a Virginia Top Doc in 2022 and named a Top Doc in Ophthalmology for multiple years (2012-2014) in Hampton Roads. She was awarded the Boyd Humanitarian Award in 2011, the AMA Jules Bergman Award, and several accolades from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, including the Senior Achievement Award, Secretariat Award, Distinguished Service Award, and the Hall of Fame Award from the Secretariat for State Affairs in 2023.  Further accolades include the Outstanding Professional Women of Hampton Roads Award and the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology Presidential Award. 

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Marioneaux serves as a Board Member of Prevent Blindness, the nation’s leading volunteer organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight.
