Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Peter Basta, who serves patients throughout the States of Kansas.

An experienced neurosurgeon, Dr. Basta has been with Midwest Neurosurgery Associates since 2007. His areas of clinical interest include deep brain stimulation, benign and malignant brain tumor surgery, skull base neurosurgery, cerebrovascular surgery, trigeminal neuralgia, minimally invasive spine surgery, degenerative spinal disorders, and more.

Midwest Neurosurgery Associates is comprised of eight neurosurgeons from top-notch training programs, who are committed to providing state-of-the-art neurosurgery to the Kansas City region. Their goal is to provide outstanding care in a patient-centered environment. They take pride in being able to offer individualized care, state-of-the-art techniques, and close communication with referring and primary care physicians to ensure the best possible outcomes.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Basta graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Truman State University and attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, before completing his internship and residency in neurosurgery at Saint Louis University, where he was Chief Resident. Finally, he completed his fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery at Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS), the doctor is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Continuously advancing his efforts, he is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Missouri State Neurosurgery Society, and the Neurology/Neurosurgery Society of Kansas City.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, cervical and lumbar disc disease, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
