Dr. Allen is a board-certified nephrologist, who is in practice with East Georgia Kidney & Hypertension of University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Established in 1818, University Hospital is a non-profit 581-bed private hospital and the second-oldest hospital in Georgia. Although University Hospital is considered a teaching institution, it does not currently sponsor an academic program resulting in a degree.

With more than two decades of experience in his field, the doctor is also affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Augusta University Medical Center and Coliseum Northside Hospital. 

His acclaimed career in medicine began in 1997 when he earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, Mississippi. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. This was followed by fellowship training at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.
