Back in 1998, Dr. Young obtained his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He then went on to serve his internship and residency in general surgery at Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, followed by his fellowship in surgical oncology at John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California.

Following his training, he became board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

In order to stay up to date in his field, the doctor remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Colorado Medical Society, and the American Association for Cancer Research. In addition, he remains affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers in his local area, including Denver Surgery Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center, and Saint Joseph Hospital.

Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology. It focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. A surgical oncologist removes the tumor and nearby tissue during surgery. He or she also performs certain types of biopsies to help diagnose cancer.

For his devotion to his profession, Dr. Young has written, published, and presented nationally and internationally on the surgical treatment of various oncologic diseases. He has also conducted basic science research in the field of oncology.
