You're anesthesiologist will evaluate your breathing status and discuss your risks and other possible avenues for sedation if possible. This is very common.     Those are not typically placed in the OR. This would be a conversation with your OB/GYN. Sometimes they can prescribe an oral medication prior to your procedure or take one you already have at home. You may need to come in before hand and make sure all the paperwork(consents) are good. You can put a lidocaine patch for an hour or two on the hand they plan to use for your IV. That should take away the pinch of the stick, but you will still feel touch which is completely normal.   • Can general anesthesia cause respiratory issues?

    Short answer-no. Long answer, those with a recent respiratory infection or poor lung function, sedation of any kind and increase irritability or decrease function of your breathing for a few days. Anesthesia can unmask issues already there but just not enough to notice on a regular day(sub-clinical symptoms). Emergent cases where the stomach still has food in it, there can be aspiration where food can go into your lungs when you go to sleep or when you wake up. That can cause a pneumonia afterwards.
