Get to know Family Physician Dr. Gary C. Berliner, who serves patients in Dawsonville, Georgia.
Dr. Berliner is a board-eligible physician practicing Family Medicine and General Practice with Urgent Care, who opened Chestatee Emergent Medical Care Center alongside his wife, Mrs. Berliner, in Dawsonville, Georgia in May of 2002. At that time, he was determined to provide medical care at a reasonable price whether his patients had health insurance or not. This determination resulted in what he calls ‘Boutique Healthcare’ for the Community.
Having designed a comprehensive rural health care clinic that operates like a small town country doctor’s office, he provides his Boutique Healthcare at a flat rate. His in-house services go for an annual fee of $800, alternatively, patients can be seen for a low $80 office visit, with access to walk-in urgent care, ala-cart cash services (at patient-doctor discretion), open access, no appointments, and no private insurance.
Prior to his current endeavours, Dr. Berliner worked as a physician at Iliuliuk Clinic, Unasea Clinic – Unalaska in Dutch Harbor, Arkansas from August 2001 – April 2002; as a Senior Research Assistant within the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine with Dr. Henry Epstein, MD, from 1981 – 1988; and as a physician at STAT Medical Care, Dr. James Dugal in Alpharetta, Georgia from 1996 – 2001.
On the subject of his academic career, he earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology and his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Chaminade. He then went on to obtain his Master of Science (MS) degree in Biology/Immuno-Biochemistry, followed by his medical degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in 1993.
Wanting to further his training, Dr. Berliner completed his residency within Community Health and Preventive Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine in 1997, where he also served as chief resident. That same year, he earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and his MS degree in Epidemiology from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
Happily married with four children, Dr. Berliner is a dedicated family man. When his time permits it, he enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, scuba diving, as well as sailing and surfing every once in a while.
On a more personal note, he is an Olympic and Paralympic IJF-A Judo Referee (Paris 1996), 8th Dan, and former National and International medalist. He travels overseas and domestically for his work as a Judo Referee, having participated as an ITO in Atlanta, and as a Paralympic Referee in the Athens, Beijing, London, and Rio Paralympics. He referees the NYAC New York Open every year since 1996, has refereed for Junior World Competition 5 times, Senior World’s in Munich (2001), and monthly on the IJF Judo Tour Circuit through 2016. Currently, he is the Pan American Commissioner for Paralympic Judo Referees, and on the United States Judo Referee Commission. Dr. Berliner’s older two children are National and International Judo Medalists, currently competing on the IJF Judo tour. His Younger children are also competitive judo athletes, while his wife is a Masters Medalist in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.
