Get to know Diagnostic Radiologist Dr. Joel A. Dunlap, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.

Recognized as a skilled diagnostic radiologist, Dr. Dunlap specializes in pediatric radiology and interventional radiology. He works at South Texas Radiology Imaging Centers with offices throughout the state of Texas.

South Texas Radiology Imaging Centers provides full service, outpatient diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services in San Antonio, Texas. With over 70 board-certified radiologists, some with sub-specialization in fields such as neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, body, cardiac, breast and interventional radiology, the Imaging Centers have experience and a reputation that spans more than fifty years. 

In practice for over three decades, Dr. Dunlap is affiliated with Baptist Medical Center, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, Methodist Children’s Hospital of South Texas, Houston Methodist Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, Nix Health Care System, Southwest General Hospital, and St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society for Pediatric Radiology, and the Texas Medical Association. 

A 1987 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine, Dr. Dunlap performed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Baylor College of Medicine. Wanting to further his training, he completed his fellowship at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

Experienced in using medical imaging techniques, the doctor is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Diagnostic radiology refers to the field of medicine that uses non-invasive imaging scans to diagnose a patient. The tests and equipment used sometimes involves low doses of radiation to create highly detailed images of an area. A diagnostic radiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating disease and injury, using medical imaging techniques such as x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), fusion imaging, and ultrasound.
