Dr. Pelletier is a pathologist serving Gainesville and the surrounding communities through the UF Health Shands Hospital. In regards to his education, Dr. Pelletier earned his Medical Degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 1991. After graduating with his Medical Degree, he joined the US Air Force where he began his training with the Wright-Patterson Medical Center. He went on to complete a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at San Antonio Uniform Services Health Education Consortium and a fellowship in blood banking and transfusion medicine at Yale University.
From 2010 to 2014, he was a member of the Laboratory Joint Working Group, on the faculty of the Emergency War Surgery Course, an AF Pathology Consultant with the Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine, on the Board of Directors of the SAFMLS, and an AF/SG with the 59 MDW Pathology. From 2006 to 2014, he was an ASBPO with the AF Transfusion Medicine Consultant and from 2012 to 2014, he was on the HHS Advisory Committee for Blood Safety and Availability with the DoD.
Additionally, Dr. Pelletier is board certified in blood banking, transfusion medicine, and anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABP). The ABP is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties and aims to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.
Pathology is a branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes. As a pathologist, Dr. Pelletier may perform a tissue biopsy to determine if a patient has cancer, practice genetic testing, and complete a number of laboratory examinations.
During his time in the field, Dr. Pelletier has assisted in the treatment of thousands of patients. His current research is focused on pathogen inactivation, reduction, and storage lesion in blood products.
