Get to know Internist Dr. Jon D. Cargo, who serves patients in Roanoke, Virginia.

Recognized as a well-known internist, Dr. Cargo is affiliated with Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital.

Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital is home to Carilion’s Inpatient Rehabilitation facility. This highly specialized unit cares for patients following an accident or illness who need intensive therapy before they can leave the hospital. Other clinical services on site include a wound healing center, endoscopy services, outpatient surgery, Carilion Children’s dental care and an occupational medicine practice.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Cargo graduated with his medical degree from the University of Virginia, and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists.
