Can acupuncture heal back pain?
Hello, acupuncture is most famous for healing back pain as supported by decades of clinical research and clinical experience. It is always recommended that one first see one's MD and be informed with radiographs (i.e., x-rays, MRI, CT scan, etc). This helps to better inform the acupuncturist on the potential causes of the back pain, i.e., slipped discs, herniated discs. Dr. Miura READ MORE
Can acupuncture help with a disc hernia?
Hello, I am a living example of being pain-free from two herniated discs for over 40 years from acupuncture, chiropractic care, stretching and Chinese organic herbs, I opted out of any surgery and pain medications, and focused on a natural active lifestyle, healthy vegetarian diet, and watching my weight. Current CT scans show no more disc herniation - a complete healing of the injury. Dr. Miura READ MORE
Can you fix a misaligned spine?
Hello, fixing a misaligned spine is not in our scope of practice. I would recommend seeing an experienced osteopathic physician or chiropractor. I do notice sometimes that acupuncture combined with yoga, pilates or Tai Chi can naturally align the spine, but not immediately and not totally. Dr. Miura READ MORE
Can acupuncture help with a chronic cough?
Addressing chronic cough, in my professional opinion, is straightforward in Eastern medicine. The best approach is a combination of specific acupuncture points and specific herbs which work immediately. An experienced practitioner should know what to do. READ MORE
Pain during acupuncture
Thank you for sharing. I have quite a number of Chiropractic doctors as patients and these doctors understand and appreciate acupuncture and herbs, and they are patient with internal change and healing. I would recommend to your patient to change acupuncturist. We are diverse like the rainbow. I am personally and primarily trained in the Japanese meridian technique of acupuncture. We use special needles and a special technique which is “painless.” Pain is not necessary for healing. I sense that your patient has long-term inflammation that may not be picked up on Western medical blood labs. When the body has been inflamed for such a long time, the body becomes extremely sensitive to pain and any kind of stimuli even noise. This is my specialty, treating complex and chronic pain syndromes. He should try to find an experienced acupuncturist with over 20 years experience who does Japanese meridian acupuncture. Herbs is a different concern. The appropriate herbs are necessary for that level of inflammation as Eastern medicine defines inflammation. READ MORE
What treatment is good for migraines?
Migraines are complex as they involve the liver channel in Eastern medicine. Oftentimes, I notice a residual viral component involved with migraines. Liver is the primary organ that cleanses and purifies the blood. First, finding out the triggers that contribute to migraines are essential. Oftentimes, caffeine, monogram glutamate, artificial chemicals, alcohol, insomnia, acute stress, air pollution, gluten are common triggers. Acupuncture and specific herbs to free up the liver channel and restore healthy liver function is essential. Liver is associated with repressed anger and resentment. Learning to show self-compassion and self-forgiveness to yourself are essential too. Adding cranial-sacral therapy, chiropractry, osteopathy would be excellent too. READ MORE
Can acupressure help the fatty liver?
Acupuncture and herbs are excellent for fatty liver, but there needs to be a multifaceted approach. First of all, a diet change is critical. Eliminating foods that contribute to fatty liver such as alcohol, red meat, processed foods, excessive pharmaceuticals that can compromise the function of the liver. Movement toward a vegetarian diet with high fiber would be beneficial. Second, regular exercise and decreasing visceral fat would be next.Through this journey, acupuncture and herbs to unstagnate, cleanse snd rebuild the liver will be essential. In Eastern medicine, a liver that is unhappy has a tendency to store repressed anger and resentment. Processing and releasing that anger by moving toward a more positive state of self-compassion and self-forgiveness will be critical in creating an healthier, wholesome, vibrant liver. READ MORE
Can you help recover after a stroke?
Acupuncture and appropriate herbs works amazing for post-stroke. It works so well, I was part of a collaboration between Stanford medical school and Zheijiang Medical university to begin an integrative approach to post-stroke care at Stanford University. I was fortunate to be trained and educated in my doctoral work to help post-stroke patients. I have had excellent results from full recovery from paralysis for example from post-stroke. Time is an essence though, the faster the intervention the better the results and recovery time. READ MORE
Soreness in hands and feet from Acupuncture
Thank you for sharing. This has never occurred to any of my patients in my 20+ year experience as an acupuncture doctor. I am not blaming anyone because I don’t have all the information. I would get your hand examined by your MD or even better, a hand specialist, to get a professional opinion after doing some tests. Sometimes, if one has a muscle syndrome such as Fibromyalgia, a bruising effect can last for days or weeks after nerve or muscle trauma. READ MORE
Is acupuncture effective for depression?
Depression always has an array of causes. I would not just solely rely on a pharmaceutical drug to “take it away,” because the root causes will not be addressed. A team of licensed interdisciplinary providers who can assess you from a holistic perspective is best. For example, besides an MD, a licensed mental health provider, nutritionist, chiropractor / osteopath, pharmacist, naturopathic physician, and acupuncturist experienced with herbs would be ideal. The interventional approach from a multidisciplinary perspective is best from my clinical opinion where all practitioners can work together and communicate with one another for you. READ MORE
Does acupuncture help with sinus allergies?
Acupuncture with the appropriate herbs are very effective for sinus allergies. However, finding the specific allergens from tests would be helpful. For example, if wheat or gluten is an allergen, you will need to avoid foods that contain these allergens. Scum your and herbs are so much safer than long term use of steroids which is the most common form of treatment by Western medicine for sinus allergies. READ MORE
Can acupuncture help with sinus infections?
This is very straightforward. For me, it’s a simple one treatment with herbs. No western antibiotics that can destroy your intestinal flora. Specific acupuncture points are used with herbs that have antibiotic-like properties that clear the infection internally and externally. READ MORE
Can acupuncture help tight tendons?
This is not a simple answer. First, your doctor must help you find the potential causes of your tight tendons. It may be due to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance which does not require acupuncture. However, if it’s chronic and caused by an autoimmune disease or hormone imbalance, acupuncture with herbs and working with your primary care MD will be necessary to address the tight tendons. Diagnostic testing will be the first step, in my opinion, to find out potential causes of the tight tendons. READ MORE
Does acupuncture for neck pain hurt?
I was trained in the Japanese “no pain” technique of needling, so my style is gentle for even children. Pain can also be a subjective phenomena. I find many adults who are afraid of needles have had uncomfortable experiences as children with shots or blood tests. The big difference between a Western shot or blood test is that a hyper dermic needle is used to enter the blood vessel which anatomically is surrounded by nerves. Acupuncture needles do not enter blood vessels and they are not hyper dermic needles. My acupuncture needles are like a piece of hair that slides through a guide tube. READ MORE
Where do they put acupuncture needles for migraines?
The beauty and wisdom of acupuncture is that there are many pathways of points to choose from to address migraines. Traditionally the migraine points are located on the hands (LI 4) and feet ((GB 41); however, I use points on the neck (GB 20), ear, points close to the migraine like Yin Tang and Tai Yang too. Points are not enough in my clinical experience. Herbs are very effective and finding what triggers them are important. For example, some migraines are triggered by chocolate, some by fluorescent light, some by teeth grinding while you are sleeping, some by toxic build up of inflammation in the intestines. READ MORE
What pressure points get rid of headaches?
The traditional point for all headaches in acupuncture is Large Intestine 4, located in the web between the thumb and index finger. The pressure has to be firm and directed inward. However, you also have to find the sources of the headache. Some headaches are triggered by dehydration, chronic stress in the jaw (ie, TMJ), eating chocolate, exposure to bright fluorescent light, etc. READ MORE
How does acupuncture help with seasonal allergies?
Acupuncture is a natural antidote to allergies. I employ herbs as well. The traditional western medical approach to treat allergies is prescription of steroid drugs, but I have found this only addresses the symptoms and leaves long-term deleterious side effects to patients. In acupuncture, the root cause of allergies are due to chronic inflammation in the liver and intestines causing a chronic weakness in these organs. Changing one’s diet and doing gentle liver and cleanses along with acupuncture can address the root causes of allergies even when they have a genetic component. READ MORE
Can acupuncture help with energy levels?
This is a broad question. First one has to find the major source of the fatigue. Initial blood tests to test the thyroid, blood levels (ie, anemia), Epstein-Barr infections, Long Covid, sleep apnea etc. should be done first. Once your doctor helps to find the source (s), acupuncture and herbs are very effective to address fatigue naturally. READ MORE
Is acupuncture once a month enough?
Acupuncture once a month is a good maintenance plan, but if the low back is in acute pain, at least once a week or twice a week is recommended. Acupuncture works on the body to heal itself so any healing works better when there is a momentum. Dr. Miura READ MORE
Can acupuncture help varicose veins in legs?
Acupuncture is excellent for varicose veins because it can enhance healthy blood circulation. However, there are multiple triggers for varicose veins. Losing weight, increasing gentle stretching, herbs, infrared heat and adding in some gentle blood thinners like fish oil will also help. Dr. Miura READ MORE
