Get to know Occupational Medicine Specialist Dr. Jolene Mitchell, who serves patients in Overland Park, Kansas.

Holding medical licensure in multiple states, Dr. Mitchell is an occupational medicine specialist, Certified Medical Review Officer, and Certified Medical Examiner recognized by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Registry.

As the Scientific Consultant and Medical Director of Data Analytics & Statistics for Health, Dr. Mitchell collaborates with government, private, and healthcare sectors to generate essential data for decision-makers and research scientists, contributing to ongoing and future innovations. 

Her academic journey encompasses a Bachelor of Science Degree in Minor Chemistry from the University of Utah in 2008, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012, an internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, a residency at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational & Environmental Medicine of the University of Utah School of Medicine, and a Master of Occupational Health Degree from the University of Utah College of Health in 2015. 

Since 2023, Dr. Mitchell has held the position of Assistant Professor at The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Her prior appointments include a physician at Sanford Health (July 2017 – April 2019) and the Medical Director at Sweetwater Memorial Hospital (August 2016 – June 2017).

Board certified in occupational and environmental medicine, Dr. Mitchell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). The ABPM is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.

Among her professional affiliations include the Medical Review Officer Certification Council and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Occupational medicine is the branch of medicine concerned with the maintenance of health in the workplace, including prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries, with secondary objectives of maintaining and increasing productivity and social adjustment in the workplace. Occupational medicine specialists work to ensure that the highest standards of occupational health and safety are achieved and maintained in the workplace.
