Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Abhijit Kontamwar, who serves patients in Canton, Ohio.

As a fellowship-trained nephrologist, Dr. Kontamwar focuses on the study of the kidneys, which are vital for maintaining normal fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. He is currently in practice with Renal Consultants Inc in Canton, Ohio.

In his local area, he is affiliated with medical facilities such as Mercy Medical Center, Aultman Hospital, Cleveland Clinic – Union Hospital, Trinity Hospital Twin City, and Aultman Orrville Hospital.

As for his academic appointment, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. 

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur in India in 1999. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency at Interfaith Medical Center in 2008, and his fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in 2010.

An expert in his field, Dr. Kontamwar is board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.

On a more personal note, Dr. Kontamwar speaks several languages, including English, Hindi, and Marathi.
