Reflections by an early adopter Endocrinologist with 34 years of experience about weight
Such a problem, obesity, affects 75% of the population. About 42% of the population is obese with a BMI of over 30 (body mass index). A normal BMI is less than 25, obese is over 30, malignant obesity is over 40. About 9% (one of every 11 persons) is massively overweight with a BMI over 40. When I...

How does diabetes affect gum health, and what precautions should I take?

Can a healthy diet reverse type 2 diabetes?
That depends. Do you know that if one obtains a gastric bypass, 75% of the time the diabetes disappears. I have had many examples of patients who enter the hospital and with the controlled diet the diabetes disappears. So if one can follow a very low calorie diet, (only 3% can) the diabetes can disappear. If one is a normal weight, it is rare when the diabetes disappears. If the diabetes has been present for a long time, then it is rare for a low calorie diet to control the diabetes without medication. Best wishes, Dr. Norwood READ MORE
Do you use general anesthesia for thyroid biopsy?

What anesthesia is best for thyroid biopsy?
I don't use anesthesia. I find that anesthetizing the area causes more pain than the skinny 27 gauge needle. It is only 3 pokes in experienced hands. It would be 6-7 exxtra for local anesthesia. Dr. Norwood READ MORE
Can your thyroid hormone levels come back after radioactive iodine?
There is a rare chance for that to happen. Mostly the goal of treatment is to completely eliminate the thyroid. There are times that the exact amount of I-131 causes euthyroidism (very rare) but most of the time it causes permanent hypothyroidism Dr. Norwood READ MORE
Is radiation treatment effective for thyroid cancer?
Radiation treatment is frequently used y if the thyroid cancer is large or if there is metastasis. It is complicated and I need much more information, such as the size of the tumor, whether has it spread, margins of the tumor after removal. So is it effective depends? Dr. Norwood READ MORE

What precautions do I take after radioactive iodine treatment?
I have never seen or heard of anyone who is near someone who received I-131 therapy have a side effect, however this is a very malpractice oriented country, so stay away from people (like covid) about 6 feet away for about a week though most of the radiation is gone within 3 days.
