The Child Neurology Division within the Department of Neurology offers specialized expertise in pediatric neurologic disorders. It provides comprehensive, high-quality neurological consultation and specialty neurological care to children with diseases affecting the nervous system and muscles. Diagnoses may include neurogenetic disorders, metabolic disorders, neurocutaneous disorders (e.g., neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis, Sturge-Weber and others), childhood headaches, seizure disorders such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, neuromuscular diseases (e.g., muscular dystrophy and others) and cerebral palsy.
Graduating with his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1968, Dr. Greenwood went on to further his training. He performed his residency in pediatrics/neurology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1970, his residency in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1971, his fellowship in pediatrics/neurology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1975, and his research fellowship in neurology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in 1977.
Subsequent to his education, he attained board certification in neurology and child neurology through the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Furthermore, he attained board certification in pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics, whose mission is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Recognized as a skilled researcher, Dr. Greenwood’s interests in child neurology, childhood headaches, neuroendocrinology, neurofibromatosis and other neurocutaneous disorders, epilepsy and other paroxysmal disorders, mitochondrial disease, neurogenetics and Tourette’s syndrome, as well as the management of baclofen pumps.
