Get to know Radiation Oncologist Dr. Gerald H. Sokol, who serves patients in Florida.

A seasoned radiation oncologist with a strong reputation in the field of skin cancer treatment, Dr. Sokol works with patients at the Trinity Cancer Center, an affiliate of Florida Cancer Specialists.

The oncology and hematology experts at Trinity Cancer Center specialize in treating early and advanced cancers, blood disorders, leukemias and lymphomas with targeted personalized therapies driven by innovative clinical research. They blend compassionate care, with cutting-edge technologies, genomic DNA based treatments and immunotherapy.

With extensive achievements in medicine, Dr. Sokol received his medical degree from Indiana University in 1970, and completed his internship and residency training at several prestigious institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Temple University Hospital, and USPHS Hospital. 

Thereafter, he went on to complete his fellowship in radiation medicine/oncology and clinical pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. He is also certified in skin cancer medicine through his training at the University of Queensland in Australia.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, the doctor is board-certified in radiation oncology, medical oncology, internal medicine, quality assurance & utilization review, and clinical pharmacology. He is also an active member of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, the Association for Clinical Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Pharmacy & Therapeutics, and the International Society of Muscle Physicians.

A former Captain in the United States Navy Reserve, Dr. Sokol has held positions as a Medical Officer at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, and at the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C.

Radiation oncology is a medical specialty that involves the controlled use of radiation to treat cancer either for cure or to reduce pain and other symptoms caused by cancer. Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is the term used to describe the actual treatment delivered by the radiation oncology team. A radiation oncologist is a specialist physician who uses ionizing radiation (such as megavoltage X-rays or radionuclides) in the treatment of cancer.
