About

Dr. John Lipman is an interventional radiologist practicing in Smyrna, GA. Dr. Lipman specializes in minimally invasive, targeted treatments. Interventional radiologists use X-Rays, MRIs and other advanced imaging to put catheters in the body in order to treat the source of the disease internally. Many conditions that once required surgery can now have less risk, less pain and fewer invasions when treated by an interventional radiologist.

  • A Breakthrough Treatment for Uterine Fibroids

What if there was a condition that affected up to 80% of adult African-American women and made the lives of many of these women absolutely miserable? What if there was a procedure that could replace the surgery that is typically done for this condition and relieve the suffering of over a million...

  • Can you get rid of uterine fibroids without surgery?

Absolutely yes ! Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is an outstanding nonsurgical treatment option. It has a very high success rate ( 90%). It's outpatient; with patients discharged the same day with just a bandaid. UFE is safer, less invasive, less expensive, and much shorter recovery than surgery. Learn more about fibroids and UFE at ATLii.com. READ MORE

  • How long does it take for fibroids to shrink after embolization?

The death of the fibroids happens within 24 hours of the UFE procedure, but it takes days to weeks for the dead fibroids to soften and shrink and this results in significant or complete resolution of a woman’s symptoms. READ MORE

  • Is prostatic artery embolization safe?

Yes, PAE is safe in experienced hands. To find an Interventional Radiologist in your area that can help you, you can visit www.sirweb.org. There is a physician locator by state at the very bottom of the front page. There are 2 boxes side by side. One is the state you live in, and the other is for the procedure (i.e., PAE). You'll get an alphabetical (by city) listing of the doctors that can help you. Good luck. • What's the difference between radiology and interventional radiology?

Radiology diagnoses medical conditions using some form of imaging (ex. X-rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, etc.), whereas Interventional Radiology (IR) treats these conditions using imaging guidance. IR discovered angioplasty and stents to treat blockages in arteries (or veins, bile ducts, etc.) seen in peripheral vascular disease, certain types of high blood pressure, and stroke. READ MORE

  • What if I'm allergic to contrast?

Check with your doctor. For minor itching, benadryl prior to the procedure may be all that is necessary. If symptoms are more than that, prednisone (3 doses day before and fourth dose day of procedure) and cimetidine (histamine blocker) are often added. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Is endovenous laser ablation safe?

Yes, it is a safe procedure. Besides laser, varicose veins can be closed with radio frequency energy, foam sclerotherapy, or even "glued" shut (Cyanoacrylate glue). The most important thing is to find the most experienced Vein Doctor you can find. What's used to close it is less important. Good luck. READ MORE

  • Is a fallopian tube catheterization out-patient?

Yes. Outpatient, but you will likely need someone to drive you as in our Center our patients that undergo the Transcervical Fallopian Tubal Recanalization (TFTR) procedure are performed with conscious (intravenous) sedation. READ MORE
