James E. Kemmler, MD, FAAOS, is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician who diagnoses and treats patients at Kemmler Orthopaedic Center, which he founded in Celina, OH, in 1998. “I’ve always loved science, and I think in terms of proper structure and mechanics. Fixing things is a passion. Orthopaedics gives me the opportunity to help people get well and return them to their work, their sports, and their lifestyles,” says Dr. Kemmler about his work as an orthopedic surgeon. Furthermore, he is the Director of MöR Rehab, hosted by the Kemmler Orthopaedic Institute and born out of Dr. Kemmler’s love for rehabilitation (2005-pesent). The Rehabilitation Director for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital (2003-present), he is also the Medical Director of Ciao! MedSpa, which he established in 2013 and Medical Legal Consultant/Founder of James Kemmler MD Consulting (2005-present), which provides expert witness and medical legal services, as well as work comp consulting. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kemmler has served as member of the Hospital Foundation Board at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, a role he embraced for 9 years. Over the years, he has authored and published numerous research papers in medical journals.

Focused on a personalized, caring approach to both conservative and surgical orthopaedic problems, Dr. Kemmler and his dedicated staff add expertise in the realm of patient care and efficiency. Graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with his Bachelor of Science degree from DePauw University, Dr. Kemmler went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, in Chicago. He then served his residency in orthopaedic surgery at The University of Illinois in Chicago, practicing at the University Hospital, Cook County Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital, VA Hospital and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Oak Park, IL.
“I have learned so much about people by traveling to third world countries and doing my residency in primarily underprivileged tertiary care centers. These experiences have taught me to appreciate people of all backgrounds. We, as a group, and I personally, strive to help people at all levels” he conveyed.
Providing excellence in orthopaedics and sports medicine, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
The author of research papers in medical journals, Dr. Kemmler is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Ohio Orthopaedic Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Fellow).
Additionally, he served as a member of the Hospital Foundation Board at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital for a 9 year term. He is also the long term Physician Rehabilitation Director for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital as well as Director of MöR Rehab, located at Kemmler Orthopaedic Center.
A certified injection specialist, he is also the Medical Director of Ciao! MedSpa, offering a variety of treatments for many areas of the face and body. Their goal at Ciao! MedSpa is to rejuvenate the skin and enhance one’s beauty.
Guiding individuals down a path to recovery, Dr. Kemmler works with a group called the Children’s Medical Mission West to help children, coming from Africa, with their orthopaedic needs. He helped co-found a successful community group called ‘Giving Thanks’. Its primary goal is helping people who are in need of food and fellowship, primarily surrounding Thanksgiving, but also with donations to other groups. He has also enjoyed donating time to young people through the school athletic programs, helping both on and off the field.
Interest in the arts has led him to become a supporting member of the West Ohio Art League and the Ohio Watercolor Society. He has helped to co-found a group called ACE (Arts for Community Enrichment) led by master glassblower, James Kahle, with a mission to foster the teaching, promotion, recognition, and accessibility of the Arts for the enrichment of the Community.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Kemmler enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, skiing, bicycling, traveling, photography, music, gardening, and art.
