As a board certified neurologist with a focus on movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Pickut is a valuable member of the MSU Neurology Clinic. She contributes to the team of 225 providers engaged in performing cutting-edge research, teaching medical and nursing students, and providing exceptional care to the Greater Lansing community.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Pickut holds an academic position as an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathy, a role she has held since June 2014.

After earning her Medical Degree from the University of Antwerp Faculty of Medicine in Belgium, Dr. Pickut worked as a neurologist at Middelheim Hospital. There, she began her clinical research in Parkinson’s disease, working in collaboration with geneticists and in drug development trials. She then became the clinic chief of neurology at University Hospital Belgium in Antwerp, before relocating to the United States.

Before becoming a part of the MSU Neurology Clinic, Dr. Pickut held the position of chief of neurology at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. During her tenure, she also served as the medical director of research for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.

Board certified in neurology and neurorehabilitation, Dr. Pickut is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

On a professional level, Dr. Pickut is an active member of both the World Federation of Neurology and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. She also holds certification in mindfulness-based stress reduction.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

Bringing over thirty years of experience, Dr. Pickut has dedicated herself to extensive research exploring the link between mindful meditation, the alleviation of Parkinson’s disease symptoms, and observable changes in brain volume. Presently, she is actively engaged in collaborative research efforts focusing on the analysis of focus groups, with the goal of contributing to a research publication.

Crediting her success to a commitment to patient-centered care, her preferred professional publications include the Movement Disorders Journal, the Green Journal, and The New England Journal of Medicine.

In a recent accomplishment, Dr. Pickut attained her RYT200 certification, becoming a registered yoga instructor.
