Dr. Tarun Kirpalani is a Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. He was brought up in Ghana and in the United Kingdom, and moved to the United States for all his higher education. He currently works at Ridgewood Oral Surgery, Clearchoice Dental Implant Center, St Barnabas Hospital and also has hospital privileges at Valley Hospital. 

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University Of Pennsylvania and received his dental degree from the prestigious University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine.

Driven by his passion to the field of dentistry, Dr. Kirpalani underwent a two year residency program for general dental practice at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, and then took a teaching position for one year with the same program.

Dr. Kirpalani then completed a rigorous Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency training at Brooklyn Hospital. His training included rotations in anesthesia, general surgery, trauma, internal medicine & the ICU.  Rotations on the OMFS service spanned across multiple hospitals in the northeast including Geisinger Medical Center, Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Bronx Lebanon, St. Barnabas Hospital, VA Brooklyn, Ellis Hospital, Anne Arundel Hospital, and Brooklyn Hospital. He also took part in overseas surgical mission trips in Ethiopia to treat patients with cleft lip & palate deformities, pathology resections and jaw reconstruction.

Dr. Kirpalani practices full scope Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery that includes dentoalveolar & dental implant surgery with bone grafting, outpatient sedation & anesthesia, head & neck pathology management, maxillofacial reconstruction, with a particular interest in facial trauma, temporomandibular joint & corrective jaw surgeries, as well as full arch reconstructions with allonX implants that include zygomatic & pterygoid implants. He currently holds hospital privileges at Valley Hospital, and is an attending with the OMFS department at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx where he covers trauma call and is involved in resident training.

Dr. Kirpalani is published in internationally recognized journals. Two of his publications in The Dental Clinics of North America included Infection Control in the Dental Office and Topical & Local Anesthesia. His research at the University of Pennsylvania included the following: How GPCR’s on mast cells & complement C3a regulate allergic responses & The role of various cytokines in periodontal disease.

Highly respected in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Kirpalani embarked on an educational voyage that led him from Ghana and the United Kingdom to the United States, where he pursued his passion for dentistry. He is proficient in dentoalveolar and dental implant surgery including bone grafting, outpatient sedation & anesthesia, managing head & neck pathology as well as complex maxillofacial reconstructions. Moreover, he has particular interest in facial trauma surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, orthognathic surgery, and allonX full arch reconstructions that include zygomatic and pterygoid implants.

Before embarking on his professional journey, he started with a foundation in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his dental degree from the renowned University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He then completed a two-year residency program in the Dental General Practice Residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center where he also spent a year as a faculty member within the same program.

He then went on to complete a rigorous Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the same program that included rotations in anesthesia, trauma surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine and intensive care. He rotated through various hospitals in the North East that include Geisinger Medical Center, Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Bronx Lebanon, St. Barnabas Hospital, VA Brooklyn, Ellis Hospital, Anne Arundel Hospital, and Brooklyn Hospital.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) is the certifying board for the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United States and is recognized and approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.Dr. Kirpalani also holds hospital privileges at Valley Hospital and has a pivotal role as an attending physician in the OMFS department at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.
