Get to know Clinical Pathologist Dr. Faisal Mukhtar, who serves patients in Florida.

An accomplished professional, Dr. Mukhtar is an anatomic and clinical pathologist, cytopathologist, blood banking, and transfusion medicine specialist. 

With expertise in these diverse areas, he excels in his roles as Associate Professor of Pathology and Medical Director of Transfusion Services at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. His extensive knowledge and experience contribute significantly to the advancement of medical education and patient care at the institution.

Educated in Pakistan, Dr. Mukhtar earned his medical degree from Khyber Medical College. He then relocated to the United States, pursuing his Anatomical and Clinical Pathology residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington D.C. 

In 2011, Dr. Mukhtar joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham to pursue fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology. He then pursued a fellowship in Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine at Institute of Transfusion Medicine /University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He joined the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida as a member of its faculty, after serving as Medical Director of Blood Bank for 2 ½ years at Howard University Hospital.

With an unwavering commitment to excellence, this doctor is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine & Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.

Maintaining active affiliations with multiple professional organizations, Dr. Mukhtar is a member of the Florida Society of Pathologists, the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the College of American Pathologists, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists and Pakistani-American Pathologists’ Society.

Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues, bodily fluids, and in some cases, the whole body. Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Mukhtar is fluent in English, Pashto, and Urdu.
