He advanced his training with a residency in surgery at LAC+USC Medical Center in 1984, followed by a residency in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center in 1988. In 2001, Dr. Pierce further specialized by completing a preceptorship in HIV medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Most recently, in 2024, he pursued a mini-fellowship in headache medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a specialist in HIV medicine through the American Academy of HIV Medicine, Dr. Pierce is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of care in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
