The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans is a public university focused on the health sciences and located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the home of six schools, 12 Centers of Excellence, and two patient care clinics. Dr. Khan received his medical degree from Louisiana State University in 2005. He then went on to complete his residency in General Surgery at the same university (2010), followed by his fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory University (2012). Additionally, Dr. Khan completed a research fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (2004-2006). Dr. Khan is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Surgeons certified by the ABS, known as diplomates, have completed at least 5 years of residency training following medical school, met all ABS training requirements, and successfully completed the ABS examination process. Dr. Khan is also board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). The ABTS serves the public by promoting excellence in practice through rigorous evaluation and examination, providing leadership in education, and ensuring high standards for professionalism, lifelong learning and certification. Dr. Khan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The ACS is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.
