Get to know Radiologist Dr. Peeyush Bhargava, who serves patients in Galveston, Texas.

Dr. Bhargava, a highly trained radiologist, specializes in gastrointestinal imaging, genitourinary imaging, and nuclear medicine. He is the Director of Abdominal Imaging & an Associate Professor within the Department of Radiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

The Radiology Department consists of various imaging techniques which perform diagnostic tests ordered by a physician. It may be as simple as a chest x-ray or a more invasive procedure such as an arteriogram of the brain. Radiologic technologists are the healthcare professionals that perform certain diagnostic exams independently or assist radiologists in the performance of invasive procedures. Radiologic technologists are essential to providing quality patient care. All technologists within the Radiology Department must go through an approved educational program, comply with ethics standards, and pass a certification exam within their chosen discipline. Also, they must complete continuing education to maintain their certification.

Graduating with his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College of Poona University in India in 1997, Dr. Bhargava relocated to the United States. Once there, he served his internship in internal medicine at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in 2001, his residency in nuclear medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, and his residency in radiology at LSU Health – Shreveport in 2018.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Bhargava is a Certified Physician Executive (Certifying Commission in Medical Management), a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (the International Society of Clinical Densitometry), a Diplomate of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, and is Certified in Medical Quality (the American Board of Medical Quality).

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American College of Nuclear Medicine, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, the Indo American Society of Nuclear Medicine, and the American College of Physician Executives.

Radiology is a medical specialty that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the human body.
