A former Navy physician, Dr. Maliska III has served with the United States Marine Corps, forward deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2005, he went on to further his education. He performed his residency in general surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in 2017, and his fellowship in surgical critical care at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in 2018.
As a testament to his success, he is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
Among his various accolades, Dr. Maliska III is the recipient of: University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Gold Humanism Award in Medicine; Fleet Marine Force Officer’s Warfare Pin; and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He was named Surgery Intern of the Year in 2012.
