  • Can acupuncture help with knee pain?

The best thing about knee pain is that we do not need too many needles to help. So for this condition, patients are usually VERY comfortable. Acupuncture is excellent for all pain related conditions. In most cases, a reduction in pain is experienced after the first session. Hope this help! Do not hesitate to ask any additional questions. • How long do the benefits of an acupuncture session last for?

One of the easier and most effective treatments with acupuncture is headaches. Normally patients who come in with a headache leave without it or at a minimum 90% relieved. Obviously this is for the general population and I don't know your case fully. Any response regarding how long a treatment lasts is very closely connected to lifestyle and the individual so this is a very difficult question to ask. Please call the office if you would like to discuss your case and I can provide better information. 201.509.4174 READ MORE

  • What are the pressure points to relieve neck pain?

This is a very difficult question to answer as I would need to first evaluate where the neck pain is. In many cases neck pain can stem from tight shoulders. When is the pain worse? In the morning? This indicates a position problem when sleeping. If the pain is worse later in the day, this indicates that there may be muscle weakness or fatigue causing the issue. Neck pain can also be structural. Self-care may be what is necessary at this point depending on the above responses. We offer not only acupuncture and chiropractic for these problems but we also train you on new lifestyle habits that will help post treatment. Call us if interested in setting up an appointment. 201.509.4174 READ MORE

  • How are acupuncture and chiropractic care similar?

Acupuncture and chiropractic are similar in that they are natural approaches to wellness. Both practitioners work on balancing the body to allow for natural healing. Actually, both work very well together to ensure patients are receiving a well-rounded treatment. READ MORE

Get to know Acupuncturist and Holistic Health Coach Dr. Rachel M. Lopez, who practices in Rochelle Park, New Jersey.

Dr. Lopez, a licensed acupuncturist and holistic health coach, is the owner of Bergen County Acupuncture and Wellness, Inc in Rochelle Park, New Jersey. A firm believer that there is no such thing as a healthy mind without a healthy body, she is proficient in various styles, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Scalp Acupuncture, Master Tung Acupuncture System, and Five-Element Acupuncture, when appropriate. Some of the modalities that she uses at her office include cold laser therapy, cupping, electric stimulation, and Gua sha.

After her own personal challenge with shoulder surgery, Dr. Lopez turned to acupuncture in a desperate attempt to ease her pain. Within a day, she found the relief that she had been looking for. From then on, she knew that she wanted to help others feel the same.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Manhattan College in 2002, she went on to obtain her Diploma of Acupuncture from the Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in Montclair, New Jersey in 2006. She also studied Health Coaching at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York and received her certification as a Holistic Health Counselor from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Currently, she is completing her Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“My education and experience helps me to treat my patients on many different levels. Treating with acupuncture helps patients achieve greater physical and emotional relief. The holistic health coaching provides patients the tools needed to effectively change habits and lifestyle. Both approaches promote healing so that my patients are left with the possibility of living life to the fullest.” as stated by Dr. Lopez.

Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, she is a member of the New Jersey Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. The practice is also used to maintain general health. Acupuncturists treat a variety of physical and psychological issues like internal medicine hypertension or anxiety.

Holistic/spiritual coaching is a powerful form of life coaching that approaches every aspect of a person’s life – body, mind, and spirit – in relation to the whole. A holistic health coach is a trained professional who uses an integrative approach to both diet and lifestyle changes to improve their patients’ health. Working as a guide toward an overall healthier life, they will look at their patients’ nutrition patterns, relationships, physical fitness, spirituality, and more.

In addition to English, Dr. Lopez reads, writes, and speaks Spanish fluently.
