Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Andrew T. Liu, who serves patients in Redwood City, California.

Dr. Liu, a well respected obstetrician-gynecologist, joined the Redwood Medical Clinic in 1989 and subsequently branched off and founded Women’s Care Medical Group in 1992 along with his wife, Dr. Dorothy Shoup. They have been in the Sequoia Hospital community ever since, offering full scope obstetrical care and delivering personalized quality care.

In 2016, Women’s Care began its collaboration with Stanford Children’s Health and today continues to care for the Sequoia Community with its high standard of personalized service. “I love my job because I get to help bring new life into this world” expressed Dr. Liu.

Licensed to practice medicine in California and Ohio, he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health. 

Born in Taiwan, Dr. Liu emigrated to the United States in 1970. He lived in Connecticut and Pennsylvania and attended Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then followed his father’s footsteps into the medical profession, earning his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1983. 

Years later, he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. He received the Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year Award for two consecutive years in 1986 and 1987 and was executive Chief Resident in 1987. He also met his wife during his residency. 

A past President of the Peninsula Gynecologic Society, Dr. Liu had served as Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN at Sequoia Hospital.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Liu and his wife have two boys who were both born at Sequoia Hospital. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and playing golf as a member at Palo Alto Hills and Napa Silverado Country Clubs. 

In addition to English, he speaks fluent Mandarin.
