Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Leonid A. Klopouh, who serves patients in Maryland.

Dr. Klopouh is a top nephrologist specializing in the care and treatment of the kidneys. He is in practice with Mid-Atlantic Nephrology Associates, P.A. where he sees patients at the office Owings Mills, Maryland & at the Access Centers in Timonium and Arbutus.

Mid-Atlantic Nephrology Associates, P.A. is a physician-owned and physician-governed group of nephrology providers in the Greater Baltimore Area. The mission of the practice is “to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to patients with chronic kidney disease and hypertension.”

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Klopouh obtained his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2001. He then went on to complete his internship, residency, and fellowship in nephrology at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, finishing his training in 2006. 

With a commitment to preserving adult health, he is board-certified in both nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Maryland, Dr. Klopouh is affiliated with the following hospitals and medical centers: Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Sinai Hospital, UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center, UM St. Joseph Medical Center, and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes.
