    The need for any glasses after cataract surgery depends on the lenses and strategy used during the surgery. If astigmatism (non-spherical cornea) is present, a lens that neutralizes it can be used to relieve the need for glasses post-op. If the patient wants to be independent of glasses for distance and near either multifocal (progressive) lenses or monovision (dominant eye for distance, non-dominant eye for near). I favor monovision with standard full vision spherical or astigmatic lenses as the optimal way to eliminate glasses in those most motivated to avoid wearing glasses.
