Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Rachel LaMonica, who serves patients throughout the State of Connecticut.
A skilled obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. LaMonica is affiliated with Progressive Women’s Health, with offices in Farmington and Bloomfield, Connecticut. She has a special interest in a minimally invasive approach to gynecologic surgery. Her mission is to provide compassionate care to her patients, and to offer expertise in minimally invasive surgery and GYN ultrasound training to the next generation of women’s health professionals.
At Progressive Women's Health, they understand a woman's unique health issues and offer comprehensive services that address a woman's evolving needs and the specific concerns she may face.
Growing up on Long Island, Dr. LaMonica completed her undergraduate and graduate education at SUNY at Stony Brook, and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. Early in her medical school training, she discovered her passion for women's health. She moved to Connecticut and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Connecticut.
Upon completing her residency, she began a 2 year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at The Hospital of Central Connecticut under the direction of Dr. Anthony Luciano. In this program, she trained in laparoscopic and robotic surgery and medical management of benign gynecologic diseases such as endometriosis, fibroids, and pelvic pain.
Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in the care of the female reproductive tract and children during the course of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period (obstetricians) and to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive tract (gynecologists).
Continuously advancing her efforts, Dr LaMonica is an active member of both the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy, and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine/Society of Reproductive Surgeons.
Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
