Which is a good painkiller for a toothache?
If a tooth hurts it's usually a big deal and requires treatment, not painkillers. I've tried this for myself and for many patients undergoing surgeries: read the bottles! take a "cocktail" of 800mg ibuprofen PLUS 650 mg acetaminophen every 4 hours. set an alarm and don't miss a dose; it can take days to chase the pain cascade. This is hopefully gonna give you some relief to sleep and get into your dentist for diagnosis and treatment. Do NOT delay as infections could set in and in rare cases result in death. This only buys you some time to get in. NOTE: these will cause an inaccurate diagnosis of the tests the dentist should be doing to determine the problem(s). If you can get a same-day appointment do NOT take and go! You can always take it right afterward. Do not use heat, in case there's an infection brewing. READ MORE
How long after dental implants can I eat normal food?
It’s wonderful you’ve gotten implants! The placing office should have given you post-op instructions and it’s imperative that you follow them or risk failure that would be due to non-compliance. Depending on your health history, medications, bone density, location and materials used, final appliance it will support, and more…this can vary widely. You would be wise to have a postop appointment and discuss it with your placing doctor’s office. As a guide in the interim, I don’t ever see great outcomes with immediate load( use right away) or worse: quick failures. In perfect situations, posterior mandibular implants can sometimes be ready in 4-6 months and the longest worst-case is anterior maxilla ( especially in presence of trauma) which can take up to a year. You can eat, just modified. I have used myself and my patients a protein shake by adding a healthy oil. Once the gingiva “ pink tissue” is 100% healed u may introduce frozen fruit to blend that has seeds. A quality greek yogurt with honey is also great as it's got as much protein as some meats and helpful live cultures of active probiotics. Look for the highest variation in strains such as Fage. I choose the full 5% fat to stay full longer and assist cellular membranes. A high-quality multivitamin is advised while in this healing period. Have fun! READ MORE
Can I get 4 dental implants at once?
Yes, of course! If you have sufficient bone height and width and density for how the implants will be attached/ used after the healing period/integration, then yes. I would want 1 surgery, not 4 and this is performed as commonplace by experienced Dentists who have additional training in these more complicated procedures. Seek a dentist who uses quality, well-known/respected implant brands and has many years experience. There are many factors that come into play. Good luck! Best, Dr. Sunshine READ MORE
What can I eat with the molar crown?
You may eat whatever you normally eat with your natural teeth; avoid ice chewing and be sure to return to whoever placed your crown for a bite adjustment if needed. Best, Sunshine Annette Mullins READ MORE
Can you get a partial denture for your upper back teeth?
Yes, it can be done...provided the right bone anatomy and remaining teeth are present. There is also a need for crowns on some teeth to house the attachments and a few options exist for style/type and varying pricing applies; the simpler, quicker, and cheaper you select, the more it will move/cause discomfort when you attempt to use to eat. Some styles are for cosmetics only and your Dentist can advise you best. No device is going to be like your own teeth and must be maintained and replaced. Best wishes! READ MORE
