I was diagnosed with Peripheral Artery Disease last week. Please advise.
peripheral artery disease, or PAD is a general terminology, indicating "blockage of arteries of the leg". There are marked difference in the severity of the disease and how you are affected depending on the severity of the disease. The most qualified physician to confirm the diagnose would be physicians who's practice is dedicated to treating patients with PAD; Vascular surgeon, Cardiologists who have specialized in treating PAD patients and other physicians who have dedicated themselves to treating patients with PAD. It is important to have your diagnosis confirmed by a specialist. The specialist should discuss with you the natural disease progression of the disease and the available treatment options. PAD cannot be corrected completely, but it can be managed successfully with life style changes and appropriated medications. READ MORE

If the maximum diameter of the aneurysm on the CT scan is > 5 to 5.5cm, the risk of rupture is dangerous enough so that a treatment will recommended. READ MORE
What is claudication?
Claudication is a symptom of a disease referred to as PAD, or peripheral arterial disease. The origin of the word means to "limp." Peripheral arterial disease refers to a process where the arteries, which supply the blood to all the different parts of the body, become narrowed or blocked. The consequence of inadequate flow of blood, specifically to the muscles of the leg, will result in pain, cramping, or a heavy sensation usually associated with walking. The pain will subside with rest and reoccurs when walking is resumed. READ MORE
Will vascular surgery affect my diabetes?
First, you should discuss and ask specifically with your surgeon, “What are the usual complications related to the heart valve replacement?” Second, the heart valve replacement surgery will not affect your diabetes, if I am understanding your question correctly, however, your diabetes may affect the wound healing, usually the surgical incision. Regulating the glucose or sugar level pre- and post-operatively will optimize the chance of the wound healing properly. Thank you. READ MORE
