  • Are antibiotic eye drops safe?

This is a very broad and generic question. The broad answer would be yes, but with many caveats. Allergic reaction to either the antibiotic or to the preservatives in the drops can present problems. Drops manufactured outside of stringent regulation of safety and efficacy guidelines may not be safe. Drops bought online could be counterfeit and dangerous. Caveat emptor. • Will conjunctivitis go away by itself?

It depends upon the underlying cause of the conjunctivitis. 1. Viral will generally run a 10-14 day course up and down, then resolve. Problem is that is is often very contagious and can cause Corneal scarring and decreased vision. 2. Bacterial may or may not resolve on its own. Can lead to a Corneal ulcer, scarring, loss of vision or even loss of the eye. 3. Allergic can be related to seasonal allergies, chronic environmental allergies of medication induced allergies. Preservatives in eye drops are a common cause. Bottom line: conjunctivitis diagnosis and treatment should be put in the hands of a competent eye physician. The consequences of non, or misappropriate, treatment can be devastating. Get Outlook for AndroidREAD MORE
