  • What can you eat with a permanent crown?

We usually tell patients to be careful with very hard foods that could also crack a natural tooth - examples include ice, hard candies, bones, and lobster/crab shell. Please don’t open things with your teeth. If the crown was cemented with temporary cement, be careful with very sticky foods. READ MORE

  • How often should you floss if you have periodontitis?

One should floss a minimum of once in 24 hours especially at night or after your last meal of the day. You can floss before and after brushing. If you’re using the water flosser, I would use it before brushing. If you want to floss after very meal, that’s helpful as well. READ MORE

  • Do crowns weaken the teeth?

Actually they help to preserve the teeth. They are less likely to fracture if protected with crowns. READ MORE

  • How long until gums stop hurting from flossing?

If you’re not flossing at least daily, your gums may bleed and be swollen and sore. It may take a month to improve even if you start to floss daily. You should see your regular dentist or a periodontist (gum specialist) to make sure everything is all right. READ MORE

  • How can I fix a dry socket at home?

I don’t believe one can treat it at home READ MORE

  • Can a tooth get infected under a bridge?

If the tooth hadn’t had a root canal yet, that’s probably what your dentist is talking about. Sometimes, the root canal can be done through the bridge. Occasionally, the bridge may have to be redone. There could also be a gum infection. If you have a swelling/abscess, you may be prescribed an antibiotic. READ MORE

  • What are my options for replacing a missing front tooth?

A molar is a back tooth but the options for replacing front and back teeth are similar. Implants are the best options nowadays. If there’s a tooth on either side of the space, one can also do a bridge. A removable appliance is the least desirable replacement but better than nothing. Sometimes, it’s used as a temporary when an implant is being done. READ MORE

  • What is the best pain reliever after a root canal?

Due to the swelling, if you aren’t already on antibiotics, you can check with the endodontist to see if you should have a prescription. Otherwise, 3 to 4 ibuprofen with 1 to 2 acetaminophen work well for pain - only if you’re allowed to take them. Feel better! READ MORE

  • Can I get dental implants if I have bone loss?

Yes, just because you’ve had some bone loss, it doesn’t mean you aren’t a good candidate for implants. READ MORE

  • What is the best way to kill bacteria in the mouth?

Rinses like Listerine, Colgate, Crest, Closys etc. are all pretty effective. Of course, brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day are most important. READ MORE

  • How fast does tooth decay spread?

It actually depends on the person and their situation- if they have dry mouth, the diet and homecare... it can be weeks, months or years... Best, Dr. Simone READ MORE
