Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Joanne Siu-Post, who serves patients in Newport News, Virginia.

Dr. Siu-Post has been practicing nephrology on the Peninsula since 2003. She presently serves as the Medical Director of DaVita Peninsula Dialysis Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Working closely with the Clinical Trials Program at Peninsula Kidney Associates, she served as a Sub Investigator on many research trials. She specializes in the detection of kidney related diseases through ultrasonography. She emphasizes prevention and education of chronic kidney disease by informing patients of the risks and recommended treatment options through CKD education.

Peninsula Kidney Associates is a full service nephrology practice providing complete diagnosis and treatment for kidney related diseases and hypertension. It is always adding services for better and more convenient treatment. In addition to its growing network of medical offices and dialysis centers, Peninsula Kidney Associates has expanded to include other services patients might need such as renal ultrasound, vascular access, CKD education, and electronic health records. The providers also provide services for hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis therapies, and renal transplantation referral.

In 1996, Dr. Siu-Post graduated with her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She then went on to perform her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in nephrology at North Shore University Hospital in 1999 and 2002, respectively. 

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine and nephrology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, Dr. Siu-Post is affiliated with Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, Sentara CarePlex Hospital, and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Prestigious professional organizations of which she is a member of include the following: the American Society of Nephrology, the American College of Physicians, and the Philippine-Chinese American Medical Association.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes.
