Get to know Periodontist Dr. Ricardo Diaz, who serves the population of Texas.

Dr. Ricardo Diaz is a native of San Antonio. He is an alumnus of St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. After graduating from Dental School in 1983, he voluntarily joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 11 years. Dr. Diaz was on active duty during Desert Storm.

He is a Board Certified Specialist in Periodontics and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has extensive experience in all areas of the treatment of gum disease and focuses his practice on this specific area of care.

To obtain Board Certification, Dr. Diaz successfully completed comprehensive oral and written examinations given by a panel of internationally respected periodontists. The examinations covered all phases of periodontal disease and its treatment including dental implants. Board certification represents the highest recognition of achievement by the periodontics specialty and indicates expertise in the field of periodontics.

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. They are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists receive extensive training in these areas, including three additional years of education beyond dental school. They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease and are trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.
