Dr. Stephen McKenzie is a dedicated family physician with over 25 years of experience. Raised on a cattle ranch, he learned the values of hard work and responsibility at an early age. Inspired by his own rural physician and a TV medical program, he pursued a career in medicine. After serving a two-year mission for his church, he worked on oil drilling rigs to support his undergraduate education. Graduating with top honors, he attended medical school and completed his residency in Family Medicine. Dr. McKenzie has served as Chief Medical Officer and practiced adult/geriatric medicine in a rural retirement community. He is currently affiliated with Mayers Memorial Hospital District, providing compassionate care to the Burney community.

Get to know Family Physician Dr. Steve McKenzie, who serves patients in Burney, California.
Named a Top Family Doctor in 2021 and 2022, Dr. McKenzie was the Chief Medical Officer of Mountain Valleys Health Centers of Burney, California where he oversaw 7 medical clinics as well as 3 dental clinics, as well as served as a geriatrician/ adult and family physician 3 days a week.
Prior to that he served as Medical Director for Hemet Valley Medical Center where he served a small rural retirement community of 30,000 in south Riverside County where for over 25 years, he also was in private practice providing adult/ geriatric medicine, providing full practice medicine, starting in the hospital at 0600, his clinic at 0800 and many hours of volunteerism, serving as the High school sports physician, working the Police Activity League boxing tournament, doing house calls and Skilled Nursing Home visits on weekends and serving as Sunday School teacher for his Church.
Currently, he is now affiliated with Mayers Memorial Hospital District, working in their newly formed rural clinic.
In Canada, Dr. McKenzie graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at University of Alberta in 1993.
