Get to know Rheumatologist Dr. Sherry E. Shuman, who serves patients in St. Louis, Missouri.

Being a respected, fellowship-trained rheumatologist, Dr. Shuman is a member of BJC Medical Group’s Central Medical Group in St. Louis, Missouri. She focuses her practice on adults with rheumatologic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, osteoporosis, arthritis, and vasculitis.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1982. She then went on to serve her internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, followed by her fellowship at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.
